Edited version:Yosef says this needs a “spoiler alert”. This is because he is less self-centered and generally less of a d-bag than me…
Lots of issues tonight, people. Bill finds himself interested in “another woman” (can a polygamist even call them that?), meanwhile, the sworn anti-polygamist Joey practically makes a play for his brother’s wife. And yet, the show continues to convincingly ride the line on the issue; it neither condemns nor condones, well, anything. Maybe it condemns poisoning people. And lying. All those ethical principles that our society has agreed upon with or without religion. But people are constantly making choices on that show that, at first, you want to find completely intolerable (like Bill taking off his ring to flirt w/ Ana), and then you’re forced to see the choices on their own terms, in their own context (Margene going in to the restaurant to meet Ana and seeming pleased that she is so warm and sweet). Well, like Preacher Casey says, “There’s no sin; there’s just stuff people do”.
My favorite line of the night, said by Nicki, regarding the wearing of a crucifix: “They might as well wear an electric chair around their necks!” Okay, point taken, but I’m just saying, that would actually be awesome!
